The human/animal bond is as old as human history.

We cherish our pets for the unconditional love and acceptance they give us.

ROAR exists to strengthen that bond and rescue the pets left destitute when the bond of that trust is broken.

ROAR Therapy Dogs Program

Dogs and their owner/handlers give back to the community in many ways.  One important way is our ROAR Therapy Dogs program.  We are reaching out to the community to put smiles on the faces of seniors in elder care facilities, and to help young readers with one-on-one reading programs.   We also visit area schools to extend our efforts to help children with special needs.

We do in-house screening and training for dog and owner teams.  All gentle and social dogs are potential candidates.  For more information, please contact the Shelter at  Or call us at 203-438-0158.

Pets for Vets - ROAR CT Chapter

Our goal is to help heal the emotional wounds of military veterans by pairing them with a shelter dog that is specially selected by our professional staff.

The Pets for Vets team interviews each veteran to ascertain what he or she is looking for in a companion animal and what their specific needs require.

We pair this with his or her personality and lifestyle to make the perfect veteran-pet match.

Visit our website for more information on this wonderful new program.

ROAR ….. saving & changing lives one tail at a time

Sometimes it’s hard to tell who benefits more from the ROAR experience – the animals or the people.  Whether you choose to make a donation, adopt a pet, volunteer your time or join one of our community activities, becoming part of the ROAR family is a decision you will never regret.
