Therapy Dog Program

Training Classes
ROAR is pleased to be offering our spring prep class leading up to the CGC test (AKC Canine Good Citizen) and the TDI test (Therapy Dog International) as a six-week course starting March 5th 2008.

Limited space, so register early! Registration form can be downloaded from you computer. Please mail with check made payable to “Good Citizen Dog Training.”

Cost is $120 (no refunds for classes missed or dropouts)

Classes will be held at the United Methodist Church in Georgetown.

Prerequisites: Completion of a basic obedience class is highly recommended. The following skills are required: sit, down, stay, walk on leash (heel) and come when called. Your dog does not need to be perfect at these skills as we will work on perfecting them. Your dog should get along with other dogs. At the CGC/TDI test your dog will be meeting a dog he does not know.

If your dog has not participated in formal obedience classes, please contact us to determine your dog’s skills. It may be necessary to enroll in a basic level obedience class before attempting the CGC/TDI.

All breeds and mixes are welcome, of course. Dogs must be 1 year or older and be up to date on vaccinations.

Classes meet weekly for 6 weeks – rain or shine. Sessions are about 50 minutes.

Cost is $120 (no refunds for classes missed or dropouts)

ROAR Therapy Work
Dogs best suited for therapy work are those with a calm, sweet disposition who love being with both adults and children. Graduates of the TDI test will have opportunities through ROAR to visit senior centers in the area and to work in literacy programs in schools. It is the expectation of ROAR and Good Citizen Dog Training that, once certified, you and your dog will become active participants in therapy work though ROAR.
